Hitoshi Takahashi

Hitoshi Takahashi was born on June 26, 1952, in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. He graduated from Niigata University School of Medicine in March, 1979 (Medical License, May 29, 1979) and obtained a PhD (Medical Science) in April, 1985. He is currently executive Vice President, Niigata University, Niigata, Japan. He retired from his professor/chairman position in March, 2018. His main areas of scientific interest were neurodegenerative diseases (clinicopathology and molecular pathology of tauopathy, -synucleinopathy, TDP-43 proteinopathy, polyglutamine diseases, etc.), and brain tumors and allied diseases (mainly diagnostic pathology of brain tumors and epileptogenic lesions). During his career, he supervised 25 students (Ph.D., 19 (including 5 Chinese students); M.Sc., 6) and more than 20 trainees (young doctors inside the University and outside). So far, he has been listed as an author in more than 700 articles, most of them published in English. Dr. Takahashi served as President for the Japanese Society of Neuropathology (2010-2018) and for the International Society of Neuropathology (2014-2018). He was President of the 19th International Congress of Neuropathology held on September 23-27, 2018 in Tokyo. He, as a distinguished fellow, is still actively involved in clinicopathological research at the Department of Pathology. He also serves editorial roles for Neuropathology (2000-; Editor-in-Chief 2003-2011), an international journal sponsored by the Japanese Society of Neuropathology, and Brain Tumor Pathology, the official journal of the Japan Society of Brain Tumor Pathology (1998-), as well as Clinical Neuropathology (1999-), the official journal of the European Confederation of Neuropathological Society, and Folia Neuropathologica (2000-), the official journal of Mossakowski Medical Research Centre Polish Academy of Science and Polish Association of Neuropathologists.
