Rohit Mehra

Dr. Mehra’s medical career began in Ludhiana, India where he received his M.B.B.S. (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. Dr. Mehra completed his residencyin anatomic pathology at the University of Michigan in 2011 after first serving for five years as a research fellow and research investigator in the laboratory of Dr. Arul Chinnaiyan, Director of the Michigan Center for Translational Pathology (MCTP). Dr. Mehra completed fellowship training in GU pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center under the Direction of Dr. Victor Reuter. Dr. Rohit Mehra joined the faculty in the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan in July 2012.  Working with colleagues at MCTP, Dr. Mehra played an important role in discovery of recurrent fusion of TMPRSS2 and ETS transcription factor genes, now recognized as an important drivermutation in a substantial subset of prostate carcinomas. He has continued to focus on the mutational landscape of malignant GU neoplasms as well as biomarkers important for diagnosis and management of affected patients. Over the last decade he has served as the author of more than 100 publications in the peer-reviewed literature, several book chapters, and abstracts. Dr. Mehrahas been invited on numerous occasions to deliver extramural, national and international presentations. In addition to routine clinical and diagnostic responsibilities, Dr. Mehra serves as MLabs’ GU Service Line Director and is also Co-Director of University of Michigan Rapid Autopsy Discovery Program. As Service Line Director he works with members of MCTP, Cytogenetics, and Molecular diagnostics to solve diagnostic problems both common and rare. To facilitate clinical translation of emerging molecular advances in genitourinary malignancies, Dr. Mehra has helped launch novel, clinically significant molecular oncology results into assays for diagnostic, prognostic, and/or therapeutic use.
